A Magical Celebration: Students Shine, PTA Sparkles!

Dear DKIS Community,

Our school glowed with festive cheer as MYP 3, PYP, and KG students enchanted us with delightful performances yesterday. The day was a celebration of joy and skill.

Following the student performances, our incredible Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) transformed the main hallway into a Christmas Bazaar, where the spirit of the season came alive. Families explored a winter wonderland of stalls, enjoying delicious treats and discovering seasonal games.

A heartfelt thank you to our students, teachers, and the amazing PTA for making this day truly magical. As we embrace the holiday season, may the unity, creativity, and joy experienced yesterday continue to inspire us all.

Best wishes,

International Basketball Tournament

In a recent regional basketball tournament, the students from Danila Kumar International school, alongside those from International School Carinthia, International School Udine, and LIS, demonstrated impressive skills and teamwork.

The boys' basketball team from DKIS showcased resilience and sportsmanship, securing an impressive second-place finish among tough competition. At he other end of the court, the girls' team dominated the tournament, securing first place with outstanding teamwork and individual brilliance.

Adding an exciting cultural element to the competition, the international mix of teams from different schools fostered companionship among students with diverse backgrounds.

Beyond victories, the tournament celebrated the spirit of sportsmanship and unity among schools, creating a memorable and spirited competition that showcased the positive energy and cheers from students, coaches, and supporters.

Congratulations to all teams for their success and contributions to an exciting basketball tournament!

Afghanistan Presentation

The 8M & 8I students are currently investigating a country located in central Asia, Afghanistan, as it will be the setting of our novel in unit 2 in Language and Literature. For this reason, they attended a presentation on Afghanistan led by one of our parents, Mr. Robič, who has recently visited this country. During the presentation he shared first-hand experience on the culture, food, transport, everyday life and meeting the Taliban. Afterwards we had a Q&A session in which our pupils posed many questions, showing their interest in this mysterious country. His experiences were surprising since Afghanistan is not a country most of us know well or would ever visit. What we learnt is that the Afghan people are welcoming, communicative and above all positive, despite the struggles they face. It was truly an eye-opening experience for everyone.

Kindergarten – Baking & Tea Party

On Monday, 11 December. the kindergarten students worked really hard when baking cookies. They were cutting and pureeing bananas. They mixed the batter and put the uncooked cookies onto a baking tray.

On Tuesday, 12 December. they were able to try the cookies during a tea party. The children set up the tables really nicely with placemats and cups they brought from home.

A Night in School

Last Friday, some of our students spent a night in the school. The evening started with a holiday quiz in which the pupils had to be excellent communicators to work together and exhibit their knowledge. After setting up their sleeping arrangements and having a traditional pillow fight, they watched a wonderful Christmas film Klaus, complete with popcorn. In the morning, the students enjoyed delicious pancakes prepared by Ms Mateja and then had a choice between baking cookies or sport activities in the gym. The night in school was a great success once again!

Year 8 Poetry & Prose Recital

The year 8 pupils worked hard during their first unit to inquire into and learn about the esteemed English poet and playwright, William Shakespeare, and his style of writing. For their summative assessment they had to use their acquired knowledge to create their own unique, imaginative and poetic sonnets and soliloquies, on the timeless theme of love. The students shared their love for various things including the seasons, sports, family, cars and food. To conclude the unit appropriately, they invited the school community to a recital, during which they proved to be risk-takers when presenting their work. The recital was followed by a tea party where they had a chance to chat with each other, their parents and teachers. We congratulate them on their creativity and hard work.

Sewing Circle – Decorating Christmas Trees in the City Centre

On Friday, 1 December, our Sewing Circle made their way to Ljubljana's city centre to decorate some Christmas trees with their hand-sewn ornaments. The children decorated two of the many trees dispersed around town, which are situated alongside the statue of France Prešeren. After hanging their ornaments on the trees, they visited the Town Hall and were offered a sweet treat. All the children felt very proud, and had a wonderful time.
