READING BADGE FOR PARENTS*
- Macfarlane, R.: Mountains of the Mind (The book, to some extent, explains to the rest of us – why people climb the highest mountains, the psychology behind it. However, it gets boring in the parts where the book references earlier literature, especially poems.)
- Feynman, R.: Surely you`re Joking Mr. Feynman! (I loved the book, the author is unusual and interesting. The negative – not even the world`s greatest scientists are immune to chauvinism.)
- Bono: Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story (I had my suspicions about Bono prior to reading this autobiography – he is extremely self-centered and to a degree pathetic, even the way in which he writes and the words and the phrases that he is choosing are annoying. However, there is no denying it – he is an unbelievably talented poet.)
- Graysmith, R.: Zodiac
- Huntington, S. P.: The Clash of Civilizations
- Menzies, G.: 1421: The Year China Discovered the World
- Mate, G. and Neufeld, G.: Hold On to Your Kids: Why Parents Need to Matter More Than Peers
- Gospodinov, G.: Time Shelter
- Towles, A.: A Gentleman in Moscow
- Brontë, C.: The Professor
- Doyle, O.: Mindful Parenting (Find peace and joy through stress-free, conscious parenting. A guide to reveal how mindfulness can help us be completely present in the messy reality that is parenting.)
- Garcia, H.: Ikigai (The Japanese secret to a long and happy life. The book encourages us to move and find the purpose and what a meaningful life will be with real life examples.)
- Erikson, T.: Surrounded by Idiots (Understanding the people around us that will change how we interact with everyone from our coworkers to our family members.)
- Shafak, E.: The Forty Rules of Love (Try to resist the changes that come your way. Instead let life live through you. And do not worry that your life is turning upside down.)
- Ruiz, M. and Mills J.: The Fifth Agreement (A powerful code of conduct that can rapidly transform our lives to a new experience of freedom, true happiness and love.)
- Flanders, C.: A Year of Less (A memoir about the author’s year of less – less shopping, travelling, eating unhealthy food… a year of self-discovery and being mindful.)
The books that were awarded The Newbery Medal (https://alsc-awards-shelf.org/) have also been recommended.
*The books were suggested by parents.
