As part of their English unit Learn to Appreciate, Don’t Discriminate, our grade 7 students explored various forms of discrimination, including those based on gender, race, religion, wealth, sexual orientation, age, and disability. Guided by the statement of inquiry –Awareness of context and different perspectives eliminates unfair prejudice – they examined historical and present-day examples from around the world to understand the root causes of discrimination and how perspectives shape attitudes toward fairness and equality. By reflecting on how open-mindedness, empathy, and principled actions can challenge prejudice, the students gained a deeper appreciation of their role in building a more just and respectful society. In today’s world, where diversity should be valued, learning about this topic is more relevant than ever. This encourages us all to think critically about the impact of discrimination and the importance of embracing differences.
