MYP 3 Community Project Presentations 🗓

You are cordially invited to the TED Talk inspired speeches of 8I and 8M, which will be held on Tuesday 14 January, in the school auditorium during lessons 1-5.

Family and friends will be able to enjoy talks on a variety of topics, given by the students as part of their Community Projects, an integral part of IB and a compulsory element in MYP 3.

The students have been working on their projects for the past three months, supervised and supported by their mentors, and coordinated at ATL lessons.

Individual, pairs and groups of students will present their research, action, and the goals of their projects in engaging and inspiring speeches.

We hope you will learn something new and see the issues the students observed in their communities with a fresh perspective. Their goal is to shine a light on certain problems, change views, and facilitate you to take action yourselves.

The event is a collapsed day for the students, ending at 13:00. Lunch will take place after lesson 5.

We are looking forward to welcoming you as members of the audience and active participants in the event.

Ms Mateja Kores

Community Project Coordinator

3M Cultural Day – Maps 🗓

Dear 3M Community,

I am writing to inform you that 3M will have a collapsed day, instead of regular lessons, on Wednesday 15 January.

The title of the collapsed day is Reading Maps, and it will take 4 lessons.

Snack and lunch will follow thereafter as usual.

The students will need their pencil cases and are welcome to bring compasses with them if they have them at home, but they are not obligatory.

Some of the lessons will be spent outside, regardless of the weather conditions; therefore, please make sure the students are dressed appropriately and have spare clothes in case of rain.

MYP Cultural Day – Sustainable Christmas 🗓

n times of global climate change and an increasing awareness of the need to protect our beautiful planet, the duty of fostering tight communities increases. Only together we can adjust and really work for a more sustainable future, in which we use fewer material resources and focus on achieving goals; these goals are connected to our values, relationships, wellbeing, and empathy for the entire living world. For example, during the flooding of Slovenia in 2023, we saw how local communities helped and supported each other, as people were connected and knew their natural environment.

Bearing this in mind, we will focus on investigating the meeting places of the modern urban world and the opportunities they give for forging relationships and building communities. We have invited a special guest from Australia for an online conversation. Ms Zala Volčič, a Slovenian born Monash University academic, honoured with a top national teaching award, will help us look at this topic from the perspective of the media, which is her primary research field.

The students will, therefore, be engaged in research and creating meaningful digital content connected to communities, all in the Christmas spirit, of course.

The collapsed day will be on Monday 23 December and start at 08:20 then finish at 13:00.

1M Science Day – Focus on Mindfulness and Senses 🗓

On Wednesday 18 December, the 1M students will take part in an in-school collapsed day as part of their Unit of Inquiry. The day will focus on exploring the senses and learning mindfulness techniques to support self-awareness and well-being.

Through sensory exercises and mindfulness practices, the students will discover ways to relax, focus, and manage their emotions.

The students should come to school as usual and bring an empty, clean 0.5L plastic bottle. The day will end at 12:05, and lunch and the afternoon program will continue thereafter.

7M & 7I Winter Field Trip 🗓

Dear Parents,

We are delighted to announce that our 7th grade students will be participating in a Winter School in Nature, taking place from February 3 to February 7, 2025, in the beautiful alpine setting of Kranjska Gora. During this exciting week, students and teachers will be staying at the Hotel Alpina, conveniently located right next to the ski slopes.

The primary goal of this program is LEARNING TO SKI! For students who are already skilled skiers, this is a fantastic opportunity to further enhance their technique under the guidance of certified ski instructors. Beyond skiing, this Winter Field trip is a wonderful chance for children to strengthen bonds with their peers, become more confident communicators, and develop a deeper sense of empathy and care for others.

We kindly ask parents of all 7th grade students to fill out the attached registration form if you wish for your child to take part in this memorable experience.

Best,

MS Jasna Lavrenčič

4M Cultural Day – Stories from Around the World 🗓

On Wednesday 20 November 2024, the 4M students will participate in a variety of activities at school from 08:20 to 12:05. By using their senses, they will explore stories, write different endings, or write their own versions of specific parts of the stories they will hear. After the 4th lesson, there will be AP and lunch.
