In times of global climate change and an increasing awareness of the need to protect our beautiful planet, the duty of fostering tight communities increases. Only together we can adjust and really work for a more sustainable future, in which we use fewer material resources and focus on achieving goals; these goals are connected to our values, relationships, wellbeing, and empathy for the entire living world. For example, during the flooding of Slovenia in 2023, we saw how local communities helped and supported each other, as people were connected and knew their natural environment.
Bearing this in mind, we will focus on investigating the meeting places of the modern urban world and the opportunities they give for forging relationships and building communities. We have invited a special guest from Australia for an online conversation. Ms Zala Volčič, a Slovenian born Monash University academic, honoured with a top national teaching award, will help us look at this topic from the perspective of the media, which is her primary research field.
The students will, therefore, be engaged in research and creating meaningful digital content connected to communities, all in the Christmas spirit, of course.
The collapsed day will be on Monday 23 December and start at 08:20 then finish at 13:00.
