On Friday 5 June, our 1M students had an exciting day exploring the science of water. We began by inquiring into the properties of water. We learned about why some water is salty, the three states of matter (solid, liquid, and gas), and the water cycle.
Next, we became scientists and tested what we had learned through a variety of hands-on experiments. Before each experiment, the students made hypotheses and predictions. They guessed whether different materials would sink or float, observed ice melting, and investigated what happens when water is mixed with materials such as salt, oil, and pepper.
We also measured the temperature of ice, room-temperature water, and steam to explore how temperature affects water. One of the highlights of the day was building our own water-filtering devices. The students tested different materials to see how they could make dirty water clearer.
It was a busy day filled with curiosity, discovery, and learning. 1M thoroughly enjoyed experimenting, testing their ideas, and thinking like real scientists!
