In the following weeks, the PYP students from the cooking club will learn to prepare some traditional dishes from Slovenia and around the world.
On Monday 27 January, we will cook with Ms Anka from the project Kuhnapato. In Slovenia it is the season of sour cabbage and related dishes, so we will be making a variety of a sour cabbage pastry (Saveljska Zeljnica).
On Monday 3 February we will celebrate Chinese New Year and, with the help of the PTA , will make a traditional Chinese dish.
On Monday 10 February we will tap into Turkish cuisine with the help of two Turkish chefs.
We are really looking forward to it!
Ms Katarina and the Little Chefs

This year the World Scholar’s Cup regional tournament will take place in two places: Day 1 – Trebnje; Day 2 – Ljubljana. The application fee is 40€ and transport costs of approximately 3€ are expected. We will probably take the train to Trebnje but, based on last year’s experience, we would kindly ask you to consider picking the students up in Trebnje after the event. The students will be asked to arrive at Festivalna dvorana in Ljubljana on the second day of their own accord. The application fee includes registration, materials and one meal per day. The students are advised to bring their own snacks as well. As this is an extracurricular activity, the school, unfortunately, does not cover the expenses. We would kindly ask you to inform us whether you agree to your child participating at the event by 28 February 2025.

The FIRST LEGO League Challenge is a globally recognized STEM competition designed for students aged 9 to 16, offering a unique opportunity to explore robotics, innovation, and teamwork. Each year, teams engage in a season-long challenge centred around an exciting and relevant theme. Participants tackle three key areas: the Innovation Project, where they research a real-world problem and propose creative solutions; the Robot Game, which involves designing, building, and programming an autonomous LEGO robot to complete missions; and the Core Values, which emphasize teamwork, inclusion, discovery, and fun.

From 20 – 24 January we will pay special attention to handwriting and the role it plays in the learning and writing process. It has been scientifically proven that handwriting, especially joined-ip or cursive writing, has positive long term effects on fine motor skills and cognition; therefore, many education systems are bringing it back to class (e.g. the USA) or keeping paper text books (Sweden).
This year's topic is interesting – the connection of our most primal sense –smell – to memories and relationships. We all remember how the wet gloves or grandmother's cookies smelt or the smell of a summer afternoon before a storm or even the newly purchased books for the school year. Each of these memories can become a story of its own and a pen and paper naturally lend themselves to the story writing process. You are, therefore, warmly invited to write down a memory of your own. Parents, teachers and students - share with us a handwritten memory or two.
We are collecting handwritten works until 7 February.

Dear parents and music enthusiasts,
On Wednesday 18 December 2024, the singers of the joint children’s choir of Danila Kumar School will perform in the heart of festively decorated Ljubljana, at the invitation of the City Municipality of Ljubljana. Once again, they will sing on the staircase in front of the City Hall during the traditional event, which will begin at 17:00. Our choir will perform first.
We will gather at 16:40 near/next to the Robba fountain, where the children will assemble as a combined choir. Please be on time.
After their performance, the singers are invited to a short reception inside the City Hall. In the meantime, you can enjoy the performance of the next choir. We will hand over your children to you shortly thereafter, near to the DM store; we will bring them outside during the transition between choirs. Therefore, we kindly ask to stay present in the event area during the performance.
Kind regards,
Choir and music teachers, Kristina Štemberger and Sara Štrancar
