On 5 March, in Slovenia, Slovenian National Reading Day is celebrated. To commemorate the day, the students took part in various reading activities. From Monday on, students from the PYP and MYP departments were encouraged to work out their teacher’s favourite books. The winners in the PYP department were Jan (5M), Olivia (1M) and Ava (1M), while Alessia (8M), Karin (8M), Neda (8M) and Mina (6M) were triumphant in the MYP. In addition to this, the 6M students were reading chapters from Roald Dahl’s autobiography Boy and started creating brochures which compare travelling a hundred years ago to now. The 8M and 8I students, on the other hand, were reading and analysing stories from the imaginative fiction genre: a chapter from The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien for fantasy, ‘The Statement of Randolph Carter’ by H. P. Lovecraft for horror, and ‘Transcript of Interaction Between Astronaut Mike Scudderman and the OnStar Hands-Free A.I. Crash Advisor’ by Grady Hendrix for science fiction. The 8M students also reported the books they had read connected to relationships forming identity. The activities provided an excellent opportunity for the students to engage with literature, explore different genres, and share their creativity.
