On Tuesday 23 December, the PYP students came to school earlier than usual, all dressed up and ready for the cultural day – we went to Cankarjev dom to see Midsummer Night (Kresna noč), a musical composed and written by Janez Dovč and Jera Ivanc. The scene, the lights, and the music transported us into the forest during a mystical Midsummer night, when light and darkness fight over the rule of everything. We followed the journey of Lucija and Svetlan who were trying to gather all the sources of light for themselves to defend against the dark Snake Dragon, not realising that keeping them all for themselves was exactly what was making the night even darker and scarier. The performance concluded happily with the students themselves helping the light return by singing along with Lucija. The musical was very well received, with cast and musicians coming together to bow amidst rapturous applause.
