MYP Cultural Day – Slovenian Cultural Heritage Week

During the visual art cultural day, the MYP students explored traditional Slovenian folk ornaments and patterns from different cultures around the world, learning about their shapes, colours, symmetry and repetition. Each grade explored different ways of transforming these traditional motifs into contemporary artworks. The 6M students used printmaking techniques to multiply, rotate and combine patterns into new compositions, while the 7M students worked in groups to transform traditional Slovenian ornaments into three-dimensional paper sculptures. The 8M students combined traditional national patterns with stylised representations of animals associated with their countries, creating tapestry-inspired paintings. Meanwhile, the 8I students combined Slovenian folk ornaments with modern architecture through collage and drawing, transforming buildings into imaginative new compositions. Through these activities, the students discovered how cultural heritage can be reinterpreted through different artistic techniques, connecting tradition with contemporary creativity. Their artworks are also part of a school-wide art exhibition organised for Slovenian cultural heritage week, celebrating cultural diversity, creativity and the connection between tradition and contemporary art.
