4M Science Day – Coal Mining Museum Velenje

On Tuesday 3 February, the 4M students visited the Coal Mining Museum in Velenje. During the trip, they experienced a ride on a coal mining train and were guided through historical scenes with puppets, as well as audiovisual presentations depicting the life and work of miners. The students gained a deep understanding of how coal extraction methods evolved from manual labour in the past to the modern mechanical techniques used today. They examined the changing equipment and tools used over the decades and learned about the diverse groups of people who dedicated their lives to working in the mines. The tour also covered the sombre history of mining accidents, which highlighted the vital importance of the strict safety measures and protocols now in place to protect workers. By exploring these underground tunnels, the students left with a comprehensive perspective on the industrial heritage and the daily realities of the mining profession.
