The 4M students recently embarked on a fascinating educational journey through the centre of Ljubljana, where they had the opportunity to explore the remains of the ancient Roman city of Emona. Guided by a knowledgeable expert, the group took a step back in time and discovered the rich historical heritage hidden beneath the modern city streets.
During the tour, the students observed a well-preserved Roman road and parts of the ancient sewage system, learning how the Romans ingeniously managed city infrastructure over 2,000 years ago. They also explored the remains of public baths, a baptistery, and even the Roman heating system.
Walking along the ancient city wall, the group visited a monument marking the original entrance to Roman Emona. This spot provided a powerful visual link between the past and present, helping students better understand the scale and layout of the Roman settlement.
The trip was both educational and enjoyable, giving students a memorable glimpse into Roman history and how it shaped the development of Ljubljana. The 4M class returned inspired and more knowledgeable about the city’s ancient roots.
