Dear DKIS Community,
At DKIS, we are committed to continuous learning and growth, not just for our students, but for our staff as well. At the end of August, our team took part in two IB professional development workshops that focused on enhancing our educational practices.
1. Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Workshop:
In this workshop, our staff explored the importance of social and emotional learning in the classroom. We delved into strategies to help students develop emotional intelligence, resilience, and empathy. Key points included:
- Building Stronger Relationships: We learned new ways to foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment where every student feels valued and understood.
- Emotional Regulation: Techniques for helping students recognize and manage their emotions were discussed, empowering them to handle stress and challenges more effectively.
- Promoting Well-being: We discussed integrating well-being practices into our daily routines to ensure our students are not only academically successful but also mentally and emotionally healthy.
2. Action, Agency, and Engagement Workshop:
This workshop focused on empowering students to take an active role in their learning. We explored how to:
- Encourage Student Agency: By giving students more choice and voice in their learning, we aim to cultivate a sense of ownership and responsibility in their educational journey.
- Foster Engagement: We discussed innovative ways to make learning more engaging and relevant, ensuring that students are deeply involved in the learning process.
- Inspire Action: Our goal is to motivate students to apply their learning to real-world situations, taking meaningful actions that contribute to their communities and beyond.
Moving forward, you can expect to see these principles more deeply integrated into our teaching methods. We will continue to prioritize social and emotional well-being, ensuring that our classrooms are safe, supportive spaces for all students. Additionally, we will focus on enhancing student agency, making learning more personalized and engaging, and encouraging students to take meaningful actions based on their learning.
We’re excited about the positive impact these workshops will have on our school community, and we look forward to continuing to grow and evolve as educators.
Best wishes,
Mr Klemen Strmljan Head of International Department
